No batteries are required, since this timing-piece is operated via a wind-up mechanism. The tempo is easily set by sliding the weight into the correct position along the length of the pendulum, where the beats per minute are clearly indicated. The metronome will then tick in time to the specified tempo and the bell will sound the beginning of each bar. When not in use, this metronome is protected by a matching dust cover.
